The big airline merry-go-round at New York’s LaGuardia Airport seems to have gone off without too much disruption.
Six major airlines at once shifted their operations to new areas within the airport at the weekend.
The expected disruption didn’t materialize even as New York saw its first snow of the season.
Travelers on Saturday said new signage was unveiled and their journey from curbside to gate ran smoothly.
Delta, JetBlue, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines all shifted to new departure terminals.
Changes included JetBlue and Alaska Airlines move from Terminal B to A, and American Airlines consolidating all flight operations at Terminal B.
Other carriers on the move over the weekend included Frontier, Spirit Airlines, and Delta Shuttle.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey had embarked on a media blitz with ads and thousands of information brochures handed out across the New York area.
The Port Authority ‘has a strong operational readiness plan in place and expects a smooth transition throughout the weekend and into Monday,’ said spokeswoman Alana Calmi.
The move is part of an ongoing multi-billion dollar redevelopment which will take several years.
New terminals will replace terminals B, C and D and it will get better transit access and improved roads, something which has been causing congestion at the airport for some time.
The major revamp is well overdue for the airport, which is consistently rated as one of the worst in the US for customer experience.
