The head of security at Chicago’s airports has been fired, just weeks after airport police officers were involved in the violent removal of a passenger from a United Airlines flight.
The Department of Aviation said in a statement last week Jeffrey Redding ‘has been terminated from his duties’ without giving a specific reason.
However local media report the reason for his firing may be unrelated to the United incident.
He reportedly did not fully disclose why he was fired from his previous post at the Illinois Tollway after allegations were made of sexual harassment.
As department head for airport security Redding was leading the investigation into the forcible removal of Dr. David Dao from the United flight.
Three officers involved were taken off active duty while the investigation continues.
Dao’s lawyer said last week there were no plans to sue the officers following a settlement with United Airlines.
