Alaska Airlines is planning a big expansion to its route network from the Bay Area with 13 new routes unveiled.
San Francisco gets 10 new routes starting with daily service to Philadelphia in late August.
Other routes include New Orleans, Nashville, New Orleans, Kona, Hawaii, Indianapolis and Baltimore which will be operated by Virgin America’s Airbus A320 jets.
It also plans to fly to Albuquerque, Kansas City and Mexico City from SFO.
From nearby Mineta San Jose International Airport, Alaska Air will fly daily to Austin, Tucson and four times a day to Los Angeles.
It all adds up to ‘the single largest new market announcement’ ever for the airline.
"The 10 new San Francisco routes and three new San Jose routes offer something for both the leisure and business traveler, including exciting destinations like New Orleans, Baltimore, Austin and Kona, Hawaii," said Andrew Harrison, Alaska Airlines’ chief commercial officer.
"Our strategy is to use the same philosophy that’s worked well for us in our Pacific Northwest hubs, which is to offer convenient, nonstop flights to the places guests fly to most."
Alaska had already become a major player in the Bay Area thanks to its takeover of Virgin America.
