American Airlines extends MAX cancellations until June

Monday, 15 Jan, 2020 0

American Airlines has once again extended cancellations of 737 MAX flights.

The MAX flights are off the schedule until at least June 4, 2020, joining United Airlines in removing them until the summer.

American had previously cancelled services on the planes through April 6.

It now seems highly likely the MAX grounding will stretch beyond a full year.

The jets were grounded globally last March after a second deadly crash within the space of five months.

American Airlines has 24 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in its fleet and firm orders for 40 more.

The airline said it would gradually phase in MAX flights after the aircraft is cleared to fly again.

It said it would take about a month for the MAX fleet to be fully integrated back into the mainline flight network.

American said late last year the MAX crisis has cost it about $540 million in lost revenue and additional expenses.
