American flight attendants arrested for money smuggling

A group of four American Airlines flight attendants have been arrested accused of smuggling more than $22,000 into the US from Chile.
All four are Chilean citizens.
Customs and Border Patrol officers found cash ranging from $6,371 to $9,000 on three of the flight attendants.
According to officials they conspired with an unnamed individual to smuggle the money out of Chile in exchange for a 1% cut, the Miami Herald reported.
Chile is in the midst of civil unrest with violent clashes between police and protesters who are calling for the President to step down.
The flight attendants are facing charges of unauthorized money transmitting, money laundering and giving false statements to customs officials.
"We take this matter seriously and are cooperating with law enforcement throughout their investigation," said American Airlines spokesman Ross Feinstein.
