Amid rising tensions Air China suspends North Korea flights

Air China has suspended flights between Beijing and North Korean capital Pyongyang amid escalating tensions between the US and the secretive communist state.
The airline denied a report by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV if would end flights indefinitely beginning Monday April 17.
Air China cites lack of demand for the suspension of the three times a week service.
"Air China did not stop operation of the Beijing to Pyongyang route, but temporarily cancelled some flights based on the situation of ticket sales," an airline spokesman said.
It added flights were often suspended due to ticket sales or ‘seasonal demand’ and future services would be scheduled according to ticket demand.
Apart from Korean airline Air Koryo, Air China is the only airline with regular flights into the country.
It comes amid tensions and threats from both the US and North Korea with real fears of imminent conflict.
China has stepped in to call on both parties ‘to stop provoking and threatening each other.’
Pyongyang said it is prepared to ‘pulverise’ US bases and the South Korean capital Seoul if it was threatened by the US military.
A tweet by President Trump last week stoked tensions to a new level when he wrote: "North Korea is looking for trouble. If China decides to help, that would be great. If not, we will solve the problem without them."
