The cruise ship battered by a big storm in the Atlantic earlier this month has cut short its latest sailing due to another severe storm.
Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas is taking no chances this time and returning to port two days early.
The ship ‘will head back to Cape Liberty immediately to avoid forecast bad weather and provide guests with a comfortable journey back home,’ the company tweeted.
Scheduled port calls at Barbados and St. Kitts are being skipped as a result of a storm brewing off Cape Hatteras, the Associated Press said.
At the same time the ship has been hit by a suspected norovirus outbreak but the cruise line has denied that this has any bearing on Anthem’s return.
"A small percentage of our guests have experienced gastrointestinal illness thought to be norovirus," said Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez.
"Those affected by the short-lived illness are responding well to over-the-counter medicine."
Anthem of the Seas sailed into a powerful storm on February 6 which caused minor damage, flooding and injury to at least four cruise passengers.
Passengers were forced to stay in cabins overnight as the ship rocked violently.
Lawsuits have already been filed against Royal Caribbean seeking damages for negligence.
