Apple Pay takes flight with JetBlue

Tuesday, 10 February 20153 min read

JetBlue will become the first airline to accept in-flight purchases with Apple Pay.

From next week, passengers with an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus can use Apple Pay to buy food, drinks and other in-flight amenities.

Customers will also be able to use Apple Pay to upgrade to premium seats.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president for Internet software says JeBlue is the first airline to adopt Apple Pay, but certainly won’t be the last.

"Somebody else doing it always puts pressure on the other guy," he said.

Customers will then be able to make payments from their wrists when the Apple Watch is released in April.

Flight attendants will swap conventional mobile payment terminals for FAA approved iPad minis.

The iPads also accept plastic credit cards and later this year, Apple Pay can be used to pay for services through the JetBlue app.
