Wow.
Two boats, one bike, human power all the way over two oceans and three continents..
Made by the wonderful team at Global Boatworks, Gulliver is a rowing boat for one – 21 ft long and designed to keep Sarah safe on the high seas. There’s a cabin for sleeping in at the back of the boat, complete with harnesses for when the weather is rough. A floodable ballast tank under the deck allows more water to be brought on board in heavy seas to add to the stability. A desalination unit tucked away inside one of the lockers allows Sarah to purify saltwater. Solar panels all over the cabin roofs allow energy production. And yes, she will take spare oars!
Nelson is a Rockpool Alaw – smooth and sleek at over 5m long, but also very stable. Compass attaches onto the top deck so Sarah knows where she is going. Lots of space in the cockpit for me legs to stretch on long journeys.
Hercules is a Santos Travelmaster 2.8, custom built to Sarah’s specifications and fitted by MSG bikes. Instead of a conventional chain, he has a Gates Carbon belt drive coupled to a Rohloff 14 speed internal hub gear.
