BA parent discussing inflight Wi-Fi deal with Starlink, Amazon

British Airways’ owner IAG is mulling options for enhanced inflight Wi-Fi.

It is holding talks with both Amazon.com for its Project Kuiper service and Elon Musk’s Starlink.

IAG’s head of innovation, Annalisa Gigante said the airline group hopes to seal a deal with one of them in 2025.

Amazon plans to launch its first Kuiper satellites in 2025.

Gigante hasn’t said which IAG airlines it will be for.

It would need to separately certify Wi-Fi service in two jurisdictions UK and Europe if it includes Iberia for example, and BA.

A number of airlines and cruise lines have secured Wi-Fi deals with Starlink including Qatar Airways and Royal Caribbean International.

United Airlines recently announced plans to offer free inflight Wi-Fi using Starlink service.
