Baggage handler steals from soldiers
A baggage handler found guilty of stealing from travelers, including troops bound for Iraq and Afghanistan, received a two-year sentence in Annapolis, Maryland.
Maryland Transportation Authority police said Shaka Watson was part of a major felony theft scheme that targeted international travelers at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport, which is a frequent military hub to transport troops.
Investigators found hundreds of watches, cameras, laptops and other electronics at Watson’s home.
The baggage handler pleaded guilty to taking a laptop from a woman who traveled on Air Canada. Prosecutors dropped other charges.
“I apologize to the men and women of the United States military. I only did it to get some money to help my girlfriend and I with our financial situations,” said Watson. He apologized for his “stupid” actions.
