Barbados ready to reopen tourism next month

Sunday, 30 Jun, 2020 0

After no new active cases of Covid-19 for more than a month, Barbados will officially open the doors to foreign tourists again next month.

It kicks off on July 12 with the arrival of an Air Canada service from Toronto.

JetBlue is also relaunching flights from New York later in July.

"We will continue to take a risk based approach to the protection of our country, our people and our visitors," said Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.

Visitors will require a negative PCR Covid-19 test result to enter.

Those from ‘high risk’ countries, which include the US, must take the test no more than 72 hours before arrival, and fill out a health declaration ED card.

Travelers from low risk countries can take the test up to a week before.

The Prime Minister is encouraging long term stays by travelers

"We want to create an environment that will allow people to come to Barbados to work, to rest and to play from here for an extended period of time during Covid-19," she said.

Most tourism businesses will be open and limits on opening hours of parks and beaches will be lifted.

Face masks and responsible social distancing is still required while the limit on social gatherings will be raised from 250 people to 500.

Barbados has reported a total of 97 cases of Covid-19 with seven proving fatal.
