Bmi achieves record carryings
The bmi group carried a record of more than one million passengers in August, latest figures show.
The group of airlines carried 1,001,613 passengers, almost nine per cent up on August last year.
It is the first time in the group’s history that monthly passenger carryings have exceeded one million.
In the rolling 12 months ending August 31, the total number of passengers carried was 10.2 million, a 14 per cent rise on the equivalent period a year ago.
Bmi chief executive Austin Reid said: “This month marks a great achievement and an historic landmark for the company, carrying in one month over one million passengers for the first time.
“In addition, August has seen the bmi group report improving passenger figures for yet another month and the consistency of these results must be seen as encouraging. Our progress remains steady and the outlook is positive but does reflect the tough market conditions in which we continue to operate”.
The figures show:
*bmi (mainline, longhaul and regional)
August 2004 passengers: 655,981
August 2003 passengers: 623,013
