Police say they believe the body of a man found in the Australian bush is missing backpacker Aslan King.

The 25-year-old from Brighton went missing around 2am on Saturday from a campsite in Princetown, close to the Twelve Apostles tourist site, south-west of Melbourne.

Friends said he appeared to suffer a seizure and hit his head on the ground before getting up quickly and rushing into thick bushland surrounding the campsite they were staying at.

In a statement on Tuesday, police said: "Officers are yet to formally identify the body; however, it is believed to be Aslan King who was last seen at a camping ground on Old Coach Road about 2am on 23 November.

"The body was located about 10.15am this morning in a creek just over a kilometre from the camping ground where Aslan was last seen.

"Investigators will prepare a report for the coroner. Police would like to thank the public and media for their assistance during the search."
