Boeing 737 Max could soon be flying again
American Airlines plans to return the Boeing 737 Max jet to service by the year-end.
It is still subject to getting a final approval from the Federal Aviation Administration.
American said it will open bookings on 24 October for a daily 737 Max flight between New York and Miami starting on 29 December.
It said customers will be informed in advance they are flying on a 737 Max.
"We remain in contact with the FAA and Boeing on the certification process and we’ll continue to update our plans based on when the aircraft is certified," American said in an statement.
The FAA recently issued a draft report on new training procedures required for airlines, which is open for public comment until early November.
The Boeing 737 Max has been grounded worldwide since March 2019 after two fatal crashes within months of each other.
The FAA hasn’t disclosed a definite timeline, only saying it ‘will lift the grounding order only after FAA safety experts are satisfied that the aircraft meets certification standards.’
Patrick Ky, executive director of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency said the 737 Max could be cleared to fly again in Europe before the end of the year.
"Our analysis is showing that this is safe, and the level of safety reached is high enough for us," Ky told Bloomberg.
