Britain is top holiday destination for Brits
More Brits spend their holidays in the UK than overseas, according to a new survey.
The April poll of more than 2,500 British adults, conducted by YouGov and commissioned by MasterCard Advisors Global Cardholder Services, found that 68% of the respondents have been on holiday in the UK over the last two years.
In comparison, 57% holidayed in Europe, 17% in North America, 6% in Africa or Asia, 4% in Australasia and 3% in South America.
The survey also found that 28% percent of Britons would like to go on more adventurous holidays and 16% of these wanna-be adventurers were over the age of 50.
“Whilst we weren’t surprised that Britons like to holiday here in the UK, we were intrigued to note that it was the number one destination in every demographic, in all ages, income levels, genders and regions,” said Tony Shawcross, senior managing consultant, global cardholder services, MasterCard Advisors.
But the survey also found that 27% of people suffer trouble while away. The most frequent problems include needing medical aid (7%), luggage lost or damaged (6%), money lost or stolen (4%), car breakdown assistance (3%) and lost or stolen credit or debit cards (2%).
