British man gunned down near Mexican beach resort

A British man was shot dead as he was driving near Mexican beach resort Playa del Carmen. He was shot in front of his teenage daughter.

Chris Cleave, 54, from Cornwall, England, worked in real estate in Mexico and had been previously threatened by a local gang, local media reported. His daughter suffered injuries but are non-life-threatening.

Two suspects were arrested at the weekend on suspicion of involvement in the hit, the Quintana Roo state prosecutor’s office said.

The Mexican government recently sent National Guard troops to resort areas across Quintana Roo due to an escalation in gun violence.
