Icelandic budget airline WOW Air has targeted Chicago as its next transatlantic market.
It will begin flying from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on July 13 from its hub near Reykjavik four times a week each Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
"We’re excited to partner with O’Hare International Airport, the third busiest airport in the United States, to bring our promise of affordable transatlantic travel to the Midwest," a statement said.
Airbus A321-300 narrow body jets will be deployed on the route.
"The addition of Chicago to WOW Air’s growing list of destinations is part of our ongoing strategy to deliver even greater flexibility and convenience to our passengers, with more connections from North America to Europe via our Iceland hub," it added.
The carrier has launched sale fares of $99 one-way to Iceland with $149 to connecting cites across Europe.
It offers connecting flights via Reykjavik to 23 European cities including London, Paris and Berlin.
Chicago marks WOW’s eighth destination in the US for the fast growing airline which launched less than five years ago.
It already flies to Boston, Baltimore/Washington, LA, Newark and San Francisco, while Miami and Pittsburgh routes begin next month and in June respectively.
