Buoyant market lifts easyJet
EasyJet saw a 60% rise in unique visitors to its website in the quarter ending June 30.
Europe’s second largest no-frills airline reported total revenue for the three months up by 34% to £460 million, with total revenue per seat rising by 17% to £45.
Passengers carried in the quarter rose by almost 16% to 8.8 million.
Figures from the airline for July show an 11.3% rise in passengers to 3.1 million year-on-year with a load factor up by two percentage points to 90.4%.
Total revenue on a rolling 12 month basis to the end of July was up by 21.8% to £1.5 billion against almost £1.3 billion.
A statement said: “We are maintaining our guidance that pre-tax profit growth for the full year will be in the range of 40% to 50%, and we now expect full year capacity growth to be in the region of 13% and expect unit revenue and unit costs to be slightly higher than our previous guidance.
“Throughout the quarter unit revenue remained strong across the network, reflecting proactive yield management and buoyant market conditions.
“Targeted marketing and promotional activity help raise awareness, with the number of unique visitors to the website up 60% for the quarter compared to the same period the previous year. At the same time ancillary revenue was up 32% per seat year-on-year.”
Weekend reports also suggested easyJet was considering franchising its name to a Saudi Arabian airline National Air Services (NAS) to establish low cost flights in the Middle East.
