Canada gives final clearance for Boeing 737 Max flights
Canada has issued final approval for the Boeing 737 Max to take to the skies again.
It finally granted an airworthiness directive allowing airlines to resume services from 20 January.
The plane had been grounded in Canada and globally since the second of two deadly Max crashes in March 2019.
WestJet is expected to be the first airline to resume flying the Max again later this week.
The airline will operate three weekly flights between Calgary and Toronto on the Max and plans to add more routes in the coming weeks.
"Over the last 20 months, Transport Canada’s civil aviation safety experts, by their rigor and thoroughness, have ensured the safety concerns the department had identified have been addressed," said Transport Minister Omar Alghabra.
"Canadians and the airline industry can rest assured that Transport Canada has diligently addressed all safety issues."
Air Canada has said it plans to restart Max flights in early February.
