Carnival delays Mardi Gras debut

Tuesday, 23 Dec, 2019 0

The planned debut of Carnival Cruise Line’s eagerly-awaited ship Mardi Gras has been pushed back.

The cruise line has been forced to cancel the first eight sailings due to construction delays.

Carnival will now take delivery of the ship in late October 2020, with the first US sailing now scheduled for November 14, 2020 from Port Canaveral.

"We have been working closely with Meyer Turku executives to keep the Mardi Gras delivery on schedule, and while we deeply regret disappointing our guests, this change in the delivery date is required to make sure all of the ship’s systems, features and technology will be fully operational," said Ben Clement, Carnival’s senior vice president of new build.

The inaugural sailing was originally planned for August 2020.

Guests booked on the scrapped sailings will get a full refund plus a 25% future cruise credit.

The Mardi Gras is set to be the first US-based cruise ship powered by liquefied natural gas and will have the first roller coaster at sea.
