Carnival eyes the east
Last year’s opening of Costa Cruises’ East Asia Hong Kong regional headquarters is seen as a clear signal to Star Cruises that its virtual monopoly of the region’s cruise market is at an end, with Carnival’s Italian subsidiary committing its 28,500 ton, 1000 pax Costa Allegra to a two year program of cruising from Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Targeting the emerging Chinese domestic market for the first time, Allegra has been operating 4 and 6 day cruises from Shanghai to ports in Korea and Japan.
Repositioned to HKG effective 5 May the ship will offer a long series of 14 night cruises with 8 departures in 2007 and a further 12 in 2008
Aimed at the international market, Allegra’s 14 night ‘Jewels’ of the Orient, itinerary takes in Manila, Kota Kinabalu, Bandar Seri Begawan, Singapore Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and the southern China beach resort of Sanya.
Per person rates in an inside two-berth cabin start from $2120
