Cathay grounds 15 planes due to engine issue
Cathay Pacific Airways has completed inspections of its entire Airbus A350 fleet after a recent engine component failure.
It initially grounded 15 planes found to have parts that need replacing.
The issue appears to be related to a fuel system leak.
A mid-flight incident occurred one hour after a Cathay A350 plane took off.
It triggered a cockpit alert warning of an engine fire, the Aviation Herald reported.
The airline canceled dozens of flights to inspect and make repairs.
Cathay said disruptions will likely continue for the rest of the week while it replaces the engine components.
Other airlines including JAL have been in touch with engine maker Rolls Royce or carried out inspections.
“If the engine manufacturer takes any further action, we will respond accordingly,” a JAL spokesperson said.
Airbus is offering airlines ‘full technical support’.
There are 86 A350-1000s currently in operation worldwide.
Other airlines with this A350 model include Qatar Airways, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
