Celebrity ship to transfer to TUI Cruises
Celebrity Galaxy, launched in 1996, is to be the first ship deployed by new joint venture TUI Cruises for the German market.
The 1,870-passenger Celebrity Cruises’ vessel will enter service for TUI Cruises in May 2009 under a new name.
The ship will complete its scheduled cruises until March 2, 2009 before transferring over to the new line, a 50-50 joint venture between Royal Caribbean Cruises and TUI AG.
The ship will operate in the Baltic in summer and the Caribbean in winter featuring on board services tailored to German tastes in food, entertainment and amenities.
Galaxy has just undergone a $4 million refurbishment, including new carpeting, upholstery and lighting in a range of public areas and cabins.
Celebrity Cruises president and CEO Dan Hanrahan said: “Celebrity Galaxy has been a treasured member of our family of ships since her maiden voyage in December 1996, and the outstanding crew on board will continue to offer the service with style Celebrity is known for right up until the shift to TUI Cruises.
“We look forward to transitioning those fine shipboard colleagues to the balance of the Celebrity fleet as we grow the brand with our new Solstice class.â€
