China’s homegrown C919 jet completes maiden flight

The first China-built large passenger jet has made its commercial debut.
The COMAC C919 aircraft has spent years in development but has a healthy order book of around 1,000 aircraft.
The China Eastern Airlines flight touched down in Beijing on its inaugural flight from Shanghai.
China Eastern is the C919 aircraft launch customer.
The airline initially ordered five C919s in 2021.
The airline chose passengers via a lottery for the flight.
It took delivery in late 2022 and has undergone a long series of test flights.
The single aisle jet has 184 seats and a flying range of 3,400 miles.
