Cirium: European flight cancellations down in May

Cirium: European flight cancellations down in May

Monday, 17 Jun, 2024 0

The number of cancelled flights within Europe fell by 21% in May 2024 compared to the previous month.

Last month, 5,584 flights were cancelled within Europe, according to the latest flight data from aviation analytics firm Cirium.

That is significantly down from 7,103 flight cancellations recorded in April 2024.

Cirium crunched the numbers for the top 30% of passenger airlines by capacity in Europe.

It found Nordic carrier Norwegian was Europe’s most punctual carrier last month.

An on-time flight is characterised as arriving within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.

Iberia was second best and SAS, Vueling and LOT Polish rounded out the top five airlines for punctuality.

It was a very different story in North America.

Flight cancellations rose by 85% month-on-month in May.

This was in spite of Aeromexico being the most punctual airline in the global category with 86.75% of flights arriving on time or within 15 minutes.
