Club Med to open new Morocco resort
All-inclusive operator Club Med is to spend €90 million on a new property in the Moroccan coastal resort of Essaouira.
It said that, prior to the pandemic, it had seen a 13% in increase in visitors to its three existing resorts in Morocco since 2017.
Club Med Essaouira will be a 4-Trident resort, open all year round, with 350 rooms. It will also feature a Club Med Exclusive Collection space.
Described as an ‘eco resort for families and active couples’ it will also offer a wide range of water sports. It is due to open in 2024.
Club Med is also spending €25 million expanding its resort at La Palmeraie in Marrakech, creating an additional 100 rooms and building a large family swimming pool and baby club. It will also renovate its Exclusive Collection Le Riad, the spa, restaurants and meeting and events area.
Additionally, Club Med Yasmina will undergo a €3.5 million facelift.
Club Med President Henri Giscard d’Estaing said: "Club Med has confirmed its commitment to Morocco through projects in Marrakech La Palmeraie, Yasmina and Essaouira.
"These various investments will enable Club Med to meet the expectations of families and active couples even more effectively. At a time when tourism is going through a particularly difficult period, these announcements symbolize our desire to move forward, to strengthen the strong and close bonds that we have built and to contribute to the international presence of Morocco thanks to our position as world leader in premium all-inclusive resorts."
