Copenhagen – biggest food festival takes off with a blast
Northern Europe’s biggest food festival, special late night museum events and tours, unusual and forgotten venues – ‘Wondercool’ gets ready to take over Copenhagen.
Winter has come to Copenhagen, and though the streets may be covered with a blanket of snow and the sun sets early, the city does not go into hibernation. Quite contrary – during all of February, Copenhagen will be host to more than 200 cultural events – from music and art to food, design, architecture and fashion.
On the 21st and 22nd of February, Danish bands The Mountains and Turboweekend will play a series of concerts in the attic of Christian IV’s Brewhouse as part of FROST Music Festival. These concerts are a housewarming for the old brewery, which has never been open to the public. Tickets are limited, although a small number won’t go on sale until January. In the neighbouring Royal Danish Arsenal Museum, FROST collaborates with The National Gallery of Denmark and FOKUS Video Art Festival to make a welcome area with music, video art and beer, open to all and free of charge.

Northern Europe’s largest food festival, Copenhagen Cooking, offers exquisite food experiences in all of February. The festival has allied itself with creative duo ‘I’m A Kombo’ – internationally renowned chefs and food designers – and FOKUS Video Art Festival for two exclusive nights on February 8th and 15th. In Nikolaj Gallery, the city’s third oldest church turned art centre, interactive food experiences meets video art, and Hvirvelvin, who has previously supplied wines to Christian F. Puglisi’s Restaurant Relæ, will supply beverages.
Throughout February, gastronomy meets the theatre, as the Republique Theater are showing ‘The Snow Queen’. Together with Swedish performance artist Charlotte Engelkes and Danish food storyteller Mette Martinussen they create an interactive food and theatre experience that stimulates all senses. There will be two exclusive shows in English on the 18th and 19th of February, and tickets are already for sale now.
And at the National Gallery three bands will play free secret snack-sized concerts!
While at the Designmuseum Danmark visitors can get another museum experience after dark, as the museum opens its doors for about 50 visitors on the 20th and 21st of February. Designers will set the stage for the atmosphere of the evening, where guests can enjoy a dining experience after hours and get a rare glimpse into the historical and hidden corners of the museum.
The full Wondercool programme will be available in January 2014. Tickets for selected events are already for sale now. Go to www.wondercoolcopenhagen.com for more information.
