Corporate events abandon Florida
Large scale conferences and meetings events are skipping Florida over the state’s divisive ‘anti-woke’ agenda.
Several Florida conventions and conferences have cancelled in response to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ culture war over LGBTQ rights and other issues.
At least five large events have scrapped bookings in Orange County and said they would hold them elsewhere.
The Game of Thrones convention Con of Thrones canceled over ‘the increasingly anti-humanitarian legislation and atmosphere in Florida,’ it said.
The National Society of Black Engineers is shifting its 2024 convention to Atlanta, GA.
Tourism leaders in Fort Lauderdale also said at least six major events were canceled in Broward County.
Thousands of hotel room nights have been cancelled.
Local officials told to the Wall Street Journal Broward County’s visitor economy will lose more than $20 million.
The Governor’s office downplayed it as ‘nothing more than a stunt’ and highlighted to the state’s record breaking tourist visitation in the first quarter of 2023.
According to the American Hotel and Lodging Association, MICE and business hotel spending generates about $7.75 billion in Florida annually.
