Costa orders two next-gen mega ships
Costa Cruises will take delivery of two huge new ships with a capacity for more than 6,000, powered by liquefied natural gas.
Costa will receive two of the four LNG powered ships parent carnival Corp previously announced it was building, each with 2,600 passenger cabins.
The ships will be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Turku, Finland and due for delivery in 2019 and 2020.
Carnival Corp. previously said its Germany based AIDA Cruises brand would be recipients of the two other LNG-powered ships.
The ships will be the first in the commercial cruise industry to run entirely on LNG in port and on the open sea.
"These ships represent the next generation of cruise ship innovation, featuring a revolutionary ‘green cruising’ design implemented to meet the specific needs of guests who sail with the Costa and AIDA brands," said Bernard Meyer, CEO of Meyer Werft.
