Countrywide strikes may affect flights to France

Tuesday, 22 Oct, 2012 0

Airlines are preparing for cancellations and delays to French flights this week after threats of various strikes in the country.

A strike supported by the French Public Services is due to start at 18:00 local time today and continue until 06:00 local time on Wednesday, 24 October.

French union CGT is also encouraging Air France employees to stage a 24-hour strike on Friday, 26 October in protest of the company’s restructuring plans.

Jet2.com said the French Public Services strike could lead to delays to its flights to France and flights operating through French airspace.

A statement said: "We would like to reassure our customers that Jet2.com will do everything possible to ensure flights operate as scheduled; however there may be delays to some flights.

"We would ask that all customers check-in on time as we will be boarding flights for an on-time scheduled departure."

However Air France claims flight disruptions on Friday should be limited to a few delays.

The airline says it will do its best to inform customers directly by telephone, SMS or email and urges passengers to make sure their contact details are up-to-date.

Air France said information about flights on Friday can be consulted at any time at www.airfrance.com, in the "Flight schedules" section.

As stipulated by the French law relative to the organization of service and information to airline passengers, Air France will provide an update on its flight schedule on 24 October.

The CGT union is calling for all employees to strike in protest of the company’s restructuring plans.

Part of the Air France-KLM group, the airline announced a three-year restructuring plan in June which includes job cuts, asset sales and a postponement of expansion plans, see previous story.
