A Federal Aviation Administration employee is facing assault and battery charges after an altercation with a colleague in the air traffic control tower at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Damon Marsalis Gaines, 38, has been placed on administrative leave and faces charges.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority confirmed the incident took place but specific details haven’t been disclosed or the cause of the altercation.
The FAA separately confirmed the employee was placed on leave pending a full investigation.
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport has come under scrutiny following a series of aviation incidents.
Earlier this year an American Airlines plane coming in to land collided with an Army helicopter, and all on both aircraft died.
This was the worst air accident in the US for years.
Also, a recent near-miss incident is under investigation, and a kite reportedly struck a United Airlines flight coming in to land at DCA.
