Major cruise lines have resumed port calls in Fiji following the carnage wrought by tropical cyclone Winston.
Carnival Australia said four of its brands – P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America Line – have already reinstated port calls to the country.
The Seabourn Odyssey also arrived in Fiji this week with calls at Lautoka and Suva.
Several cruise lines cancelled port calls immediately after the cyclone, fearing the damaged infrastructure would be unable to cope with large numbers of visiting cruisers.
"We learned from experience with Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu last year that the community and local authorities were keen to see the ships return as soon as possible because cruise tourism was so important to their economy," Carnival Australia executive chairman Ann Sherry said in a statement.
Carnival Australia is also contributing to relief efforts in the country in partnership with Save the Children Australia.
"We are very pleased to be contributing to Save the Children Australia’s relief efforts in Fiji which have highlighted the incredible power of Cyclone Winston and the resilience and courage of the people of Fiji," Sherry said.
