Florida: Famous resort cracks down on tourists who show off too much flesh

Good news – or maybe not – for all those who like to spend your holidays lapping up the sun on Florida’s beautiful beaches; one of the biggest resorts in the state is to slap a ban on “G-strings, T-backs, dental floss and thongs”.

A report in the Daily Telegraph states that the resort’s 65,000 residents are so fed up with the acres of flesh on display on its beaches that a new law has been passed to make sure people are suitably covered up.

The mayor has declared that persons in public places must have “full and opaque coverings over their private body parts” and that beach-lovers will not be able to get around the rules using body paints, dyes, latex, tape, or any substance “that can be washed off the skin”.

Tom Flanigan, spokesman for Visit Florida, the state’s tourist organisation, told the newspaper that tourists flouting the new law could find themselves in front of police.

And while he said he didn’t want to give the impression Daytona Beach was a “prudish” place, he added: “People were screaming about public nudity so it was time to rule it out. We are raising our kids here and we don’t want them to see that kind of thing.”
