A cruise ship sailed into New York dragging the carcass of a 40-feet long whale.

Authorities said it was an endangered sei whale weighing about 50,000 pounds.

It was discovered draped across the bow of a MSC Cruises ship as it approached the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

Authorities were ‘immediately notified’ MSC Cruises said.

The whale was towed to a beach in Sandy Hook, NJ, where a necropsy was performed.

Robert A. DiGiovanni, chief scientist of the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society says the whale was likely killed in a collision with the ship, however an investigation is still ongoing.

“It looks like the animal was alive and it was hit by a vessel.”
