Death toll rises in St Petersburg metro blast

Tuesday, 4 April 20173 min read

The death toll in yesterday’s blast in the St Petersbury underground rail network has risen to 14 after three people died in hospital.

Russian authorities are treating the blast as a terror attack but no group has claimed responsibility.

Initial reports said there were two blasts but it has been confirmed there was only one.

Around 50 people are believed to have been injured and the metro was shut.

The train driver’s decision to continue to the next station has been credited for saving lives.

The UK Foreign Office updated its advice to advise anyone in the area to take extra care and follow the advice of the local authorities.
