Delta Air Lines worker charged with smuggling cash on flights

A Delta Air Lines employee has been busted for allegedly smuggling large amounts of cash through Atlanta Airport.

Bubacarr Drammeh used his credentials as an airline employee to evade airport security screenings to smuggle hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash over the course of about 12 months from late 2016.

Once through security screening unopposed, Drammeh transport the cash on scheduled flights.

The Atlanta office of the U.S. Department of Justice said Drammeh and his wife were charged with smuggling while he is also facing an additional charge of trying to bribe an airport after a consignment of cash was discovered.

Drammeh was caught with over $140,000 in cash in a bag and attempted to bribe a security screener with $8,000 in exchange for not reporting it.

The screener refused and contacted police.

The Drammehs are suspected of taking more than 50 trips together on commercial flights out of Atlanta.

"The multi-layered approach to security at ATL addresses passengers and employees alike," said airport spokesman Andrew Gobeil.

"We work constantly with our law enforcement and airline partners to maintain a safe, secure environment at the world’s busiest and most efficient airport. Additionally, we will continue to assist the federal authorities as needed in this investigation."
