Delta Air Lines’ CEO is demanding compensation for a power cut at its Atlanta hub which he believes may cost the airline up to $50 million.
The world’s busiest airport was hit by a blackout on Sunday and remained without power for several hours.
Delta was forced to cancel about 1,400 flights and dozens more which were in the air at the time were rerouted to other airports.
“We had a lot of people at the start of the business week that didn’t take their trips,” Ed Bastian told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“We will certainly be seeking the opportunity to have a conversation, and then seek reimbursement,” he said.
Passengers were still stuck at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport until Tuesday as the airline struggled to get up and running again.
An underground fire is thought to have been the cause, although the FBI and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating to see whether it could have been an act of sabotage.
