Disney’s Jungle Cruise ride will remove ‘negative depictions of natives’

Disney’s iconic Jungle Cruise ride will finally receive a big revamp after years of criticism.

The company is giving the classic attraction an overhaul due to the ‘negative depictions’ it represents of other cultures.

The ride has been accused of stereotyping native cultures as primitive and dangerous.

"This is not a re-envisioning of the entire attraction. It’s the Jungle Cruise you know and love, with the skippers still leading the way, and at the same time, we’re addressing the negative depictions of ‘natives,’" said Chris Beatty, Walt Disney Imagineering executive.

It isn’t the first time a Disney attraction has been forced to make changes.

The Splash Mountain ride was also being overhauled to remove any link to the controversial 1946 movie Song of The South.

The Pirates of the Caribbean ride was also revised to remove the perceived sexism of the selling off of ‘wenches’ at auction.

Jungle Cruise rides will be changed at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
