Eastern Airways starts first Welsh routes
Eastern Airways is to launch its first flights from Wales with three routes from Cardiff.
The regional airline is to serve Brussels, Newcastle and Aberdeen from next month.
Eastern is setting up a crew base and basing Jetstream 41 aircraft at Cardiff to operate the services.
Two flights each weekday from Cardiff to Brussels, three each weekday to Newcastle and a daily non-stop flight to Aberdeen using 29-seat Jetstream 41s start on April 24.
Eastern Airways’ director Graeme Ross said: “We constantly evaluate new route opportunities and the services from Cardiff to Brussels, Newcastle and Aberdeen are an excellent fit with the rest our regional network.”
“South Wales has always had strong business links with European Union capital city and the air link to Newcastle enables business travellers to conduct a day’s business without the need for an overnight stay. The non-stop service to Aberdeen will save travellers valuable time compared to other transport options.”
Airport managing director Jon Horne said: “Eastern Airways is the third new scheduled airline to launch flights from the Welsh capital this year and we are delighted to be working with such a highly respected carrier.
“Services to Brussels and Newcastle from Cardiff are vital for the regional economy and this announcement is great news for the business community. Eastern’s enviable reputation for reliability means the airline’s popularity among business travellers is well-deserved.”
