EasyJet accepts 100th aircraft
EasyJet claims to be running the largest low cost airline fleet in Europe after taking delivery of its 100th aircraft.
The Airbus A319 was delivered to the airline’s Berlin base – the 39th to enter service from an order of 120 aircraft by 2007.
A further 20 A319s are due to be added to the fleet in 2005 as the airline strives to increase passenger numbers by up to 20% this financial year. EasyJet also has options on another 120 aircraft from 2007.
The airline – which marks its 10th anniversary in November – carried 2.6 million passengers last month, second only to Lufthansa in Europe, and more than British Airways, Alitalia, Air France or KLM.
Chief operating officer Ed Winter said: “We believe there is still a great deal of potential throughout Europe for low csot services and easyJet intends to be at the forefront of further market expansion.”
