Travel technology company Airportr has expanded its Baggage-as-a-Service network with the launch of its home baggage collection service at Edinburgh Airport, marking the first time the service has been available at a Scottish airport. The service is currently available at Geneva and London Gatwick, with Zurich and Basel set to follow.

The new offering allows departing passengers to check in their luggage from home or their hotel before heading to the airport. Airportr collects the bags, completes the check-in process and delivers them directly to the aircraft, enabling travelers to arrive at the terminal baggage-free and head straight to security.

The service has launched in partnership with Edinburgh Airport and easyJet, with passengers traveling to Geneva also able to have their luggage delivered from the airport to their final destination after landing.

The rollout comes as Edinburgh Airport prepares for another record-breaking summer. After handling a record 16.9 million passengers in 2025, the airport expects to exceed its peak traffic level during the 2026 summer season.

For Edinburgh Airport, moving baggage check-in away from the terminal is expected to improve operations during busy periods by reducing congestion in landside areas, shortening bag-drop queues and providing greater control over passenger flow.

Peter Barnes, Chief Operating Officer at Edinburgh Airport, said the launch supports the airport’s strategy of making travel more convenient.

We’re always looking at ways to make travel easier for our passengers, and this new service does exactly that. Being the first airport in Scotland to offer home luggage collection gives passengers even more choice and convenience, particularly during the busy summer period.

The Airportr partnership also complements Edinburgh Airport’s recent investment in improving the passenger experience. Ahead of the 2025 summer season, the airport completed a £5.8 million redesign of its check-in hall, creating more space and installing 50 additional self-service kiosks. It has also introduced new technology to better monitor passenger movement from curbside to departure gates.

By shifting one of the airport’s most space-intensive processes away from the terminal, Airportr extends those improvements beyond the airport itself.

Research conducted by Airportr suggests there is strong demand for the service. The company found that 76% of travelers checking bags want to reach their departure gate within 45 minutes of arriving at the airport, while 67% cited avoiding the hassle of carrying heavy luggage as the main reason for using the service.

Our ongoing partnership has shown that door-to-flight and flight-to-door baggage services provide passengers with a level of convenience and peace of mind they highly value,” said Ultan O’Brien, Chief Revenue Officer at Airportr. “Launching at Edinburgh Airport extends those benefits to more travelers.
