Edinburgh Airport on shortlist for US pre-clearance
Edinburgh is being considered by the US as a fast track pre-clearance airport.
It has been shortlisted as one of 11 possible new airports worldwide where passengers travelling to the US can pre-clear customs.
The US currently has pre-clearance facilities at 15 airports in six countries, including Dublin and Shannon in Ireland.
Last year, the US Department of Homeland Security also identified London Heathrow and Manchester Airport as priority locations.
American Airlines, United, and Delta operate daily flights from Edinburgh to New York while Norwegian will launch flights to Boston, New York, San Francisco and Washington DC in spring 2017.
