Employee sues Southwest Airlines over 'segregated' break room

Southwest Airlines has been accused of doing nothing to stop ‘extreme’ race discrimination in the workplace.

A lawsuit filed by former employee Jamel Parker alleges the airline was aware of a segregated ‘whites only’ break room at Houston Hobby Airport which ‘existed for years.’

"Southwest knew about the white break room; the existence of the segregated break room was common knowledge. Southwest failed to have the white break room removed," the suit claimed.

The lawsuit also details the discovery of a ‘noose made of bungee cords.’

"Nooses are an obvious reference to the history of lynching blacks and are hung for the purpose of intimidation and discrimination."

Parker was employed as a ramp agent for nearly four years until he was fired for failing to report a damaged power cord but claimed that white workers who committed the same error were not treated as harshly.

Parker is claiming for unspecified damages and is seeking trial by jury.
