Europe wide legislation on bags to be introduced

Sunday, 18 Aug, 2006 0

New European Union legislation is expected within the next few weeks to standardise hand baggage restrictions throughout Europe.

Although strict security procedures are in place at UK airports, this is not the case at many hubs on the Continent.

Currently, the government of each country determines the rules for departing airlines and many authorities are reluctant to impose strict guidelines which inevitably cause delays.

A Sky News investigation revealed today how passengers are allowed to take gels and drinks in hand luggage on flights from Brussels.

A security expert said: “It simply does not make any sense for Britain to act unilaterally. Terrorists can just target a flight going into the UK.”
