European flights unaffected on 11 September
Despite a slump in bookings, flights within Europe will operate as normal tomorrow, but there are restrictions over London.
The UK Department for Transportation has issued a flight restriction on the area surrounding St Paul’s Cathedral in London between 10:30 and 15:00 tomorrow, while a memorial service takes place. The restriction prevents commercial and private aircraft from flying within one nautical mile of the cathedral during these times.
Bmi british midland is operating its long and shorthaul frequency as normal on 11 September. A spokesperson for the airline said: “Across the board this week we are seeing a slight drop in bookings particularly on 11 September, however there are some routes which have normal capacity”.
Lufthansa has not cancelled any flights, and says it would have altered its schedule if demand had dropped significantly. British Airways has also not made any schedule changes for flights within Europe.
None of the no-frills carriers have reported any schedule changes as a result of poor bookings. A spokesperson for Ryanair said the carrier had a load factor of 70% for tomorrow and had not noticed a drop in demand.
At BAA airports, security remains on high alert, with extra police presence at the airports, and restrictions on carrying sharp objects in hand luggage. All BAA airports will hold a one-minute silence at 13:46 tomorrow.
