Eurotunnel Group says 2016 was’the best year’ in its history, despite terror attacks in Paris, Brussels and Nice causing a drop in Eurostar passenger numbers.
Its revenues in 2016 were up 4% to €1.023 billion and its net consolidated profit was up from €75 million to €200 million.
Chairman and CEO Jaques Gounon said: "2016 was the best year in our history. Our outlook is very good and we are announcing new improved objectives for 2017 and 2018."
Eurotunnel carried 2.66 million passenger vehicles and 1.64 million trucks last year. Le Shuttle achieved a market share of 55%, which was boosted by a 16% rise in the number of domestic pets carried to a record 301,159.
Eurostar carried more than 10 million passengers, with traffic picking up towards the end of the year. The train operator will launch a new service from London to Amsterdam later this year.
