Eurotunnel blames hot weather for five-hour delays
Eurotunnel customers are suffering long delays at Folkstone for a second day due to problems with onboard air conditioning, combined with high traffic levels.
The train operator says some shuttles are struggling to produce sufficient cool air due to the ‘exceptional and prolonged temperatures’ in Britain so it is has been forced to run with reduced capacity.
Yesterday, some customers were delayed by more than five hours and the long delays are continuing today.
Customers have taken to Twitter to voice their frustration, blaming Eurotunnel for not investing in its stock and also complaining about unclear instructions.
Eurotunnel is distributing water to customers and their pets and says it has drafted in additional staff to cope with the disruption.
It is also putting on extra trains overnight to help alleviate the problems.
It advised people travelling to Folkestone to visit services on the M20 on their way to stock up on water and not to arrive early.
It has cancelled ticket sales for today and has cancelled tickets for those travelling on day return crossings or those travelling today and returning tomorrow.
Anyone wishing to cancel their outbound ticket today but keep the return leg is being asked to complete an online form.
