Expanded CDC mask mandate includes cruise ships
The CDC’s far-reaching expansion of the mask mandate will include cruise ships and port terminals.
It requires masks to be worn when traveling on conveyances into and within the United States.
The Executive Order on Promoting Covid-19 Safety in Domestic and International Travel relates to aircraft, train, road vehicle, vessel or other public transportation.
It goes into effect on 1 February 2021 and requires masks to be worn in public at all times except while eating, drinking, or taking medication.
Children under two years old are exempt.
"Given how interconnected most transportation systems are across our nation, when infected persons travel on public conveyances without wearing a mask and with others who are not wearing masks, the risk of interstate and international transmission can grow quickly," said new CDC Director Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky.
The immediate impact is non-existent for the icruise ndustry as a resumption of US cruise operations is still uncertain, although it may possibly dissuade some customers from booking cruises for the time being.
