More woes for under-fire United Airlines.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has proposed fining the carrier $435,000 for operating flights on a Boeing 787 jet that was not considered airworthy.
It relates to a total of 23 flights after mechanics replaced a fuel pump pressure switch on the plane but did not perform a mandatory inspection before it went back into service.
United has requested a meeting with the regulator to discuss the issue.
A United statement said: "The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority. We immediately took action after identifying the issue and are working closely with the FAA in their review."
FAA administrator Michael Huerta said: "Maintaining the highest levels of safety depends on operators closely following all applicable rules and regulations. Failing to do so can create unsafe conditions."
